Friendships renewed and experiences shared!

Every reunion is that time of the year to reunite, reminisce, celebrate and take a nostalgic trip down the memory lane, and this year was no exception. Each year, reunion brings several alumni and their families back to PSG college of Technology for an unforgettable day!

The Alumni Congress 2015 had created an aura of celebration and happiness in the entire college, which was obvious from its decorative look and with happy faces all around. This year’s Congress saw around 600 online registrations and finally, the count escalated to nearly 1000 on the D-day.

The spot registrations were in full swing before the Inauguration meeting

The inaugural function saw many keyed up alumni throng the venue several minutes prior to its actual commencement. The address delivered by Principal Dr Rudramoorthy gave an insight into the tremendous growth of our college in terms of both quantity (with the number of students in the college nearing 10,000) and quality (more than 250 among 550 faculties are PhDs) and the transformation of our college from being a teaching institution to a research institution. Major activities like establishing an Alumni foundation responsible for running GRD Science and Technology museum and the scholarship initiative through the Alumni Association with the help of Central Bank of India which were in the pipeline were also highlighted in his speech.

The chief guest for the inaugural Mr. S. Padmanaban (B.E ECE 1980), Executive Chairman, Tata Quality Management Services, Mumbai has indeed made his alma mater proud with his endless list of achievements. His “never say no” attitude and the courage to face life, come what may and the willingness to adapt to changing situations and the curiosity to constantly learn, he said were the reasons behind his remarkable achievements. While concluding, he stressed on the importance of focus and service, taking the example of Staedtler pencils based in Munich, and also emphasized on finding work life balance, giving back to the society and spending quality time with dear ones. His address was undoubtedly inspiring and motivational! Following the keynote address by the chief guest, he was asked to launch the TechEx virtual expo which has information about the entrepreneurial endeavours of PSG Tech alumni.

It was a show of strength of the alumni spread across various decades

The Alumni of 1955-1965 batch who celebrated their golden jubilee this year were felicitated following the launch of TechEx virtual expo.

One session of the inaugural which every alumni was keen to attend was the address by guest of honour Pulavar Shanmuga Vadivelu, famous for his witty one liners. His talk was full of life lessons disguised in humour. His speech was a hit and was evident from the thunderous applause when he wrapped up.

The inaugural also had the felicitation of 8 young alumni for their successful business ventures and the distribution of scholarships to students of PSG college of Technology and PSG Polytechnic College and prizes for the winners of GRD talent test conducted across several schools in tamilnadu and concluded with the handing over of rolling trophies to students and teachers of Srinivasa Vidyalaya Matriculation higher secondary school Tirupur and R.S.K Matriculation higher secondary school Trichy, the overall winners in Tamil and English medium respectively.

The Games and Fun session post lunch kept the kids on their feet and was a hit!

The post lunch portion of the Congress had several interesting sessions ranging from Data warehousing & business intelligence, opportunities in textiles, IT wave and expectations from an “engineering graduate” and latest technologies in automation industry to water conservation techniques and IDE for microcontrollers, the profile of the speakers ranged from analysts and project managers and managing directors to CEOs and COOs, this stood as a testimony to the assortment of talents that our college has managed to produce so far. The games conducted in the quandrangle served its purpose extremely well as all the family members and the kids in particular thoroughly enjoyed every game that was organized and it left an indelible mark in the minds of everyone alike!

Tek Music show was the perfect finale to a glorious day

Any grand event will be incomplete without a Tek Music show and the performance by Syed Subhan (B.E. Metallurgical Engineering, 2009-2013) was an icing on the cake. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the show which was a perfect amalgam of “good old” songs and the peppy new ones, performed by old and young alumni respectively. The show did see a lot of dancing by the audience. This was the time they got to literally relive their college days, thanks to TM.

The untiring enthusiasm, with which the students, faculties and the members of PSG Tech alumni association worked, made this years’ event better than the best and will definitely make each of the alumni come back next year!
