On the weekend before the Christmas eve, the former students of PSG College of Technology and PSG Polytechnic College reunited to rekindle their fond memories. This edition was effectively the fourth of its kind (since its inception in 2012) and witnessed over 500 registrations by the alumni of PSG CT and PSG PTC around the globe.

A formal ceremony was organised on the morning of 22nd Dec for felicitating the senior alumni and the young (alumni) achievers and awarding the GRD Talent test winners. Dr R Rudramoorthy, Principal, PSG College of Technology presided over the ceremony with Mr M Ponnusami, Chairman, CII, Tamil Nadu State Council as the Chief Guest and Mr Madhu Bhaskaran, CEO, Samagraa Progessive Learning Solution Pvt. Ltd as the Keynote Speaker.

Post the welcome address Mr D Nandakumar, President, PSG Tech Alumni Association briefed about the activities carried out by the PSG Tech Alumni Association including the PSG i3 (Ideas, Inventions and Innovations) expo – an avenue for individuals to showcase their ideas and talents. Following him, Mr R Balaji, Secretary, Alumni Congress 2018 spoke of the importance of organising such ceremonies and the benefits that all stake holders (the alumni, the students, the staff and the managements) would reap.  He also gave a gist of the ‘Knowledge Connect’ sessions organised on the previous evening in which about 50 alumni who are successful in their respective fields interacted with the present student community.

Visionary Dr G R Damodaran had strongly believed that good infrastructure, good staff and good alumni/ students are what make an institution stand out. Elaborating on the institution’s efforts to keep the above three floating, Dr R Rudramoorthy went on to reveal the current standing of PSG Tech in the national and global fronts (#29 by MHRD and #). He also introduced the PSG Alumni Foundation, a charitable trust established by the senior alumni to streamline the alumni association activities- one of them being the establishment of the PSG- GRD centre for Science of Technology. He ended his presidential address by thanking the alumni for their constant support and generous contributions to the institution in the form of scholarships and donations.

The Chief Guest Mr M Ponnusami, the Chairman and Managing Director of Pon Pure Chemicals India Pvt Ltd, one of the leading Indian exporters of India took over the stage shortly. Hailing from modest backgrounds, he graduated from PSG College of Arts and Science with a bachelors in Chemistry. A self-made businessman, Mr Ponnusami briefed the circumstances under which he built his company which stands tall today. Drawing references from his own experiences, he advised the businessmen and the aspiring entrepreneurs to always stay grounded and honest and be financially sound and accountable.

Nine graduates of the year ’08 and above from PSGCT and PSGPTC were given the Young Alumni Awards for their excellence in their respective careers in a short span; senior alumni in the gathering were felicitated as well. The 33rd GRD Talent test toppers across 18 centres were awarded by the former presidents of the alumni association.

Mr Madhu Baskaran, the special guest for the day engaged the audience with his simple yet thought provoking keynote. In addition to his occupation as a CEO, Mr Bhaskaran is a motivational speaker, HRD trainer and a Business Strategist as well; it’s no wonder that he grabbed the attention of the entire crowd with ease. His talk revolved around the mystery of perception and how important it is to accept and adopt it. “Give your kids good education, good experience and teach them to be compassionate. Everything else, they will (l)earn by themselves”, he said while speaking of parenting. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr M Arasu, General Secretary, PSG Tech Alumni Association.

Alumni Congress 2018 hosted on 21st and 22nd December 2018 by the PSG Tech Alumni Association is the fifth of its kind. Hosted annually or biannually, the event is to bring the former students together and recognise each other’s achievements. In addition to the formal ceremony, the two-day Congress also comprised of the ‘Knowledge Connect’ events (organised by various departments) and the ‘Social Connect’ events organised by the clubs and associations of PSG Tech.
