SPORTS DAY GETTING SET:

The department of physical education, PSG CT organized the Annual Sports Day for the academic year 2014-15 on 10th March 2015. The function was headed by Mr. K Sankaravadivel, Chief Manager, State Bank of India, Peelamedu and was presided over by Dr. R Rudramoorthy, Principal, PSG CT. The flag was hoisted by Dr. R Rudramoorthy, Principal, PSG CT. The Torch relay was, then, initiated by J Joe Agiroy, Sports secretary, PSG CT. This was followed by the athletes Akshaya Nandhakumar(I BE ECE), who represented India in the Asian Youth Chess Championship, M Indhumathi(IV BE ECE), who represented Anna University Teakwonda team in the All India Inter-University Championship and S Saravankumar(IV BE ECE), Athletic team captain who lighted the Olympic lamp.

Sports day on its go

The Principal of PSG CT, Dr. R Rudramoorthy declared the sports meet open and the events like 800m(women) and 100m(men) were held. Then, the Principal of PSG CT, Dr. R Rudramoorthy and the Principal of PSG Polytechnic College, Dr. B Giriraj distributed the prizes for the winners in these events, for differently abled students and also for staff members. The prizes for the winners of Intramural athletic events were distributed by the staff members.

Sports day at its dusk

The valedictory function marked a pleasant start with the prayer song. The sports secretary Mr. J Joe Agiroy welcomed the chief guest and the gathering. The annual report of PSG CT men was read by Mr. J Joe Agiroy, sports secretary. This was followed by the report of PSG CT women by Ms. K Bharathi, sports joint secretary.The chief guest, then, addressed the gathering and distributed the prizes.

Awards and Honours

Players who have represented district, state, university and nationals were honoured with the “Star sports person award”. 11 students were awarded as star sports persons for their representation during the academic year 2014-15.

The overall championship for men was bagged by 3rd years who secured 60 points, and the second place was bagged by 4th years who secured 45 points.

The overall championship for women was shared by 2nd and 3rd years, each securing  55 points, and the second place was bagged by 1st years securing  35 points.

The mementoes were given for the Secretary and joint secretaries of sports. The Principal of PSG CT, then presented a memento to the chief guest as a token of gratitude. The vote of thanks was delivered by P. Hariharvignesh(III BE Production), Sports Joint Secretary. The function, then reached a climatic stage with the National Anthem.

Perspectives of a few people involved

Akshaya Nandhakumar(I BE ECE), a star sportsperson award winner, and one of the torch bearers says that it was amazing to see all the athletes and official sportspersons of PSG CT at one place. She adds that sports day was organized in a professional way. She also extends that she made many friends on that day…

M Indhumathi(IV BE ECE), also a star sportsperson award winner and one of the torch bearers says that it was a good start with the lighting of the Olympic lamp. She also feels that PSG CT is doing a great work in sports dimension than any other institution. She also takes this chance to thank PSG institutions for honouring her with star sportsperson award for the second time…

K Bharathi, Sports Joint secretary, says that sports day 2014-15 was the most prestigious and exciting day for all the athletes and sports persons. She adds that this increases the interest of non-players in sports. She also shares about her happiness in delivering the annual sports report of our college women teams that brought laurels to PSG CT.   She also says that it was a day with mixed feelings of happiness at the start and sadness of missing their teammates at the end, as in case of final years.  She also says that she has learnt a lot, by being a joint secretary, and is thankful for all the team players who helped to carry out all the events throughout the year…

J. Joe Agiroy, Sports secretary, says that the annual sports meet was a grand success. He says that every team, along with its captain, supported a lot in conducting various games and events, despite the hectic schedules. He also says that they increased the number of prizes and awards this year that entailed tremendous positive responses from students. He also says that the physical education department has done its best with the aid of the management, to promote student activities, this year, as much as possible. He also expects the management and Principal, Dr. R Rudramoorthy to acknowledge and encourage various sports and games the same way in the upcoming years, for the welfare and betterment of students.

D Aakash Maari(I BE Mechanical), a bronze medalist in 100 m and javelin throw says that he had a great day receiving prizes on stage, with his buddies wishing him. He also adds that he met new persons and got new friends. He also says that the whistles and applauses of the audience encouraged him a lot…

Kantha Nivaraj(I BE Mechanical), an offender in kho-kho, says that sports day 2014-15, which begun with the Torch and followed by the March, is a special day for every sportsman. He also adds that it was a day of happiness to the core, as they together roared…
