The Grand Finale
An overview of the Super Singer Finals 2k17 conducted by Radio Hub
On Saturday, the 11th of March, the Quadrangle was bustling with students trying to settle in for the much-awaited grand finale of PSG Super Singer 2017. To judge the event, three very talented professors were invited namely,
- K.Bhuvaneshwari, HOD, Pharmacology, PSG IMSR
- Muhammad, PSG IMSR
- P.Suresh Kumar, HOD, English, PSG Tech
The event began with each of them individually performing for the crowd and exhibiting their skills. The Radio Jockeys ,Subash and Sanjay kept the crowd entertained, by building up the suspense as they began introducing each of the top five contestants, which marked the start of Round 1.
First on stage, we had Andal performing “VaayaVeera”. Although being the first to start, she took to the stage with a bold performance. Next up, we had Panimalar, who incidentally was one of the previous year’s finalists. Naturally, expectations were high for this one, and she sure did meet them with her soothing performance of “NinaithuNinaithu”. She was followed by Nirmala, who also chose to perform a melody. She was followed by the only male contestant Karunakaran, who pepped it up with a fast number. Last but not the least, for round I, we had Madhumitha, winner of Hostel day 2017, and also the birthday girl. The MCs wished her, and even ushered the crowd to sing her the birthday song!
Radio Hub had a wide variety of performances for us on that chilly evening, for right after Round I, they staged the finals of Tech’s got Talent, 2017. A very welcomed initiative by Radio Hub, that brought out vast amount of latent talents from our college, the best of which were showcased to us. To host this part of the night, we had Abinash, Gokul and Kawin-RJ’s of the club – a rather interesting trio with a happy-go-lucky attitude that the student community very much enjoyed. Among Rubik’s cube solving, Paper quilling, Thread bangle making, Portrait drawing, Juggling and stunt performances, we also had a lovely live Saxophone performance by Vikram.
Without much ado, the most awaited element of the night, the Chief guest Syed Subahan’s performance was announced; Needless to say, the crowd went WILD! Shortly reminiscing about his days at PSG tech, he sang, “Kanama”. The phones that were held up to record his performance and the relentless flashes said it all.
A special mention for the cinematography team is much in order. The videos capturing the off-site talents for the TGT (Tech’s got Talent) 2017 finals, the tribute to Syed Subahan, the remake of “ItharkuthaneAasaipattaiBalakumara” trailer – all of it was amazing! With that, Round II of PSG Super Singer commenced where the singers gave it all they had. Each one of them kept redefining the limits with the persevered attempt to outdo each other.
With a few last TGT videos, we moved on to the result, as the Judge’s panel and the Chief Guest went up on stage. The results came at the end of a very anxious countdown. The trophy went to the deserving finalist of 2016 PSG Super Singer, Panimalar. However, that did not mark the end of the night, the club took us all by surprise, by announcing one last song from the Chief Guest which was incredible as always, and with that we came to the end of a very well hosted show.
To sum it all up, I want to quote the lines from a video RH played that said “On a journey to entertain you, LET THE Q-ANGLE VIBRATE”, and to be honest, it truly did!
