RJ Subash and RJ Abinash (from the RH team) – the hosts of the programme kept the crowd engaged with their witty monologues and spontaneous antics. A live online voting channel was created through which the audience could cast their votes for their favourite singer.
Unlike the previous editions (read PSG Super Singer and The Grand Finale) , the fourth edition of PSG Super Singer wasn’t restricted to the students of PSG Tech alone. The inter-institutional competition was left open for the students of five institutions- PSG College of Technology, PSG Polytechnic, PSG Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, PSG College of Arts and Science and PSG Institute of Management, all under the PSG Umbrella. The auditions were conducted at PSG Institute of Management’s amphitheatre for a period of five days from Jan 31st to Feb 4th, after a quick inauguration presided over by Shri. Gopalakrishnan (Managing Trustee, PSG & Sons’ Charities). A whooping figure of 1060 students lent out their voices, of which the top 63, the top 40, the top 25, top 15 and finally the top 6 finalists were shortlisted after multiple rounds.
The finale comprised of two rounds – the first one being a freestyle round in which the singers chose songs of their forte. While Madhumitha’s melodious Kannaalane, Vidya Priya’s Kaatril Endhan Geetham and Keethivasan’s Adiye Enna Raagam swooned the audience, Sai Aishwarya’s Azhagumalar Aada, Sai Krishna’s Paatum Naane, and Madhumitha’s Thaaye Yoshoda gave a much needed classical touch. The second round was a Judges’ challenge in which the contestants had to prove their mettle by singing a song chosen by the panel. The Madhumithas and Sai Aishwarya stunned the audience with their high notes and gusto while Vidyalakshmi, Sai Krishna and Keerthivasan, with their renditions of Ilayaraja’s classics. Not to forget, the cinematography team of RH had shot introductory videos for each finalist that added a personal touch to the cinematic feel!
Meanwhile, a few demonstrational videos from the best of “Tech’s Got Talent” were played during the programme (To know more Tech’s Got Talent, read The Talent Fever ) and all the sixteen finalists of Tech’s Got Talent were awarded by the end of the ceremony by Dr.R.Nandagopal (Director, PSG Institute of Management). Mr.Prashanth, who is well known for his vocal skills gave a moving performance on the popular Illayaraja piece Amma Endralaikatha.
Smt.Vani Jairam who took over the dais, marvelled at the grandeur around and expressed her appreciation to all the participants and the organising team. On popular demand, she enticed the audience by singing popular beats like her evergreen M.S.Viswanathan composition Malligai, reminding everyone why she’s fondly called the ‘Meera of Modern India’. Later, Shri N.C. Nandagopalan (Secretary, PSG Sarvajana) honored the jury. The much awaited moment of the day finally dawned as Madhumitha (from PSG CAS) bagged the title of PSG Super Singer 2018 and Sai Krishna (from PSG iTech) bagged the ‘Audience’s favourite’ title.
The Grand Finale conducted by PSG Tech’s Radio Hub marks the finale of its flagship events- “PSG Super Singer” and “Tech’s Got Talent”. As we revel in the grandiose of the show and await the likes of the next year, let’s take a moment to appreciate the commendable efforts put up by the RH team to pull off an event of such magnitude!
